Education and Training Programs

Are you a caregiver to a person with  Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia?  Would you like to have a better understanding of dementia and the disease process?  We can help!  The Willing Hearts, Helpful Hands program is now offering  a family training program, with an approved curriculum from the Alzheimer’s Association called Cares®, Dementia Care for Families.

This program is designed to give caregivers education about their loved ones’ disease and offer helpful tips and strategies to make their difficult job as caregiver a little bit easier.

The CARES® training program will help you to understand memory loss, how to live with dementia and using the Cares® approach.  The Cares® approach teaches caregivers how to connect with their loved one, assess behaviors, respond appropriately, evaluate what works and to share with others.  Upon completion of the program, families will have a better understanding of what dementia is and what their loved one may be experiencing.  Caregivers will also  gain a sense of comfort and confidence when caring for their loved one.

Training sessions are offered throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties at convenient times and locations.

Do you have difficulty leaving your loved one and want to attend one of our trainings?  We can help organize care for your family member so that you can attend this valuable training.  We also have a limited number of training opportunities available for caregivers to access online from the comfort of their home.

Our staff have completed the Dementia Cares training and are able to answer any questions you may have.

If you are interested in attending one of our training programs, please contact (516) 586-1507, contact WHHH@parkerinstitute.org via email.
